Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day in Hanoi

The 8th Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day – “Returning to the Roots” (November 23, 2012) will take place from November 21-24, 2012 at the Vietnam Cultural and Art Exhibition Center (2 Hoa Lu Street, Hanoi). With the theme: “Exploring the Red River Civilization,” and in anticipation of the 2013 National Tourism Year of the Red River Delta – Hai Phong, the 2012 Cultural Heritage Day is organized under the direction of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Education and Training, with the participation of five provinces and cities in the Red River Delta region: Hanoi, Hai Phong, Phu Tho, Ninh Binh, and Bac Ninh.

Accordingly, the Vietnam Cultural and Art Exhibition Center will feature exhibitions exploring the Red River civilization, including: the exhibition “Red River Civilization from the Dong Son to Dai Viet Period”; The exhibition will feature Vietnamese folk paintings, showcasing typical styles such as Hang Trong, Dong Ho, Kim Hoang, and Vu Di (Vinh Phuc) devotional paintings; and an exhibition of kites from the Red River Delta. In addition, the organizers will dedicate a separate exhibition area for each province, introducing famous historical sites, scenic spots, typical and unique cultural, tourism, and culinary products; showcasing the intangible cultural heritage of their locality; and displaying the finest handicrafts of the Red River Delta provinces…

Within the framework of this year’s Cultural Heritage Days, there will be a seminar on “Promoting Folk Cultural Heritage – Current Situation and Development Needs”, a celebration of the longevity of veterans who participated in the “1972 Dien Phu Air Battle”, the program “Youth with the Cultural Heritage of the Red River Delta and the Day of Returning to the Source on November 23rd”, along with many other unique traditional cultural and artistic programs of the Red River Delta region.

To celebrate Vietnam’s Cultural Heritage Day (November 23rd), the Hanoi Old Quarter Management Board is organizing various cultural activities at locations such as: Kim Ngan Temple (42-44 Hang Bac Street), Dong Lac Temple (38 Hang Dao Street), the Hanoi Old Quarter Heritage Information Center (28 Hang Buom Street), and Ta Hien Street.

At Kim Ngan Temple, there will be presentations on Vietnamese tea brewing and tea tasting, and performances of Quan Ho folk songs by the Kinh Bac Folk Song Club. At Dong Lac Temple, the living space, lifestyle, and cultural atmosphere of old Hanoi will be showcased. At the Hanoi Old Quarter Heritage Information Center, the project to renovate and preserve the facades of Lan Ong Street, a traditional medicine trading street, will be presented. This project is part of the plan to preserve and enhance the streets, maintain and promote architectural values ​​in the Old Quarter, and contribute to boosting trade and tourism in the Old Quarter.

At the same time, the Hanoi Old Quarter Management Board, in coordination with the Vietnam Television Film Production Center, introduced the filming location of the movie “Light of the Imperial City” on Ta Hien Street, aiming to recreate the living space of Hanoians during the French colonial period from 1930 to 1945.
